Description

In this workshop you will explore and learn how to increase learner agency of our English as additional language learners through:

Deepening your understanding of what the different terms associated with bi lingual and multilingual learning means in our classrooms

Developing your skill set to enhance the use of translanguaging opportunities in the classroom

Using tools and ideas to help develop multi lingual  and bilingual learners in an inquiry classroom

Dedicated to improving teaching and learning for over 35 years has led Mary to live and work in 9 different countries in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Working with a focus on Primary Education, she used her knowledge and experience to train, coach and lead learning in a range of contexts. In particular over the last 20 years, she has been a head of an international school in Brunei for the children of Shell employees, the founding headteacher of Jaya Global School, a thriving bilingual school for Indonesian children and more recently, she was the founding Vice Principal of the new campus of the United World College in Singapore. Mary has been fortunate to lead and work with the Primary Years Programme, the International Primary Curriculum, and various national curriculum.

Amongst other qualifications, Mary has a Bachelor of Arts in Education, an MA in International Education and is a trained and experienced coach. Always fascinated by language development and having studied at UCL for teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, Mary recognises that our classrooms are becoming more diverse with both cultural and linguistic opportunities for students to learn and grow. Over the last four years, Mary has accredited schools and delivered training all over the world and brings her practical and interactive style to her training to enable teachers to take away useful knowledge and skills to better support their student’s development in identity, home and additional languages, cognition and agency. She continues to work remotely as a coach and works for the Australian government on teacher training projects in more remote areas of Indonesia.
